Delete your account
Last updated
You can close your Playroste account whenever you want, and you do not need to give a reason — from inside the app, or by writing to us if you can no longer get in. This page says how, what disappears, and the one thing that does not.
The quickest way: from the app
Open Playroste, go to your profile and scroll to the bottom. "Delete my account" is the last thing there. It asks for your password, tells you what is about to happen, and does it straight away. An email then confirms what has been deleted.
If you can no longer sign in
Send an email to privacy@playroste.com from the address your account uses, saying that you want it deleted. Writing from that address is what proves the account is yours; a request from any other address cannot be acted on, because there would be no way to tell it apart from somebody trying to close your account for you.
You will get a confirmation once it is done. If you do not hear back within a few days, write again — it means the first message did not arrive.
What is deleted
Everything that says who you are:
- Your email address, your password and your link to Google, if you used it.
- Your nickname, your first and last name, your photo and your preferences.
- Every open session, so the app signs out everywhere at once.
- The device identifiers used to send you notifications, so nothing else reaches your phone.
- Your place in every upcoming game, which frees your spot for whoever is on the waiting list.
What stays, and why
Games that already happened stay, but with no name on them: where you were, it will say that a player was removed.
This is not a way of keeping your data. It is that a game is shared — the result, who won, and the ranking that came out of it belong to everybody who played, not only to you. Erasing you from a finished game would rewrite somebody else's history and their ranking with it. So what is removed is the link to you, and what remains does not identify you.
If you set up a game that has not been played yet, tell the group before you go: with your account gone, whoever is signed up loses the person who was running it.
How long it takes
The account is deleted within 30 days of your request, and normally within a few.
The encrypted backups are the exception, and the same one the privacy policy describes: your data can still be inside a snapshot for up to 7 days, until that copy expires on its own. Those backups are only ever restored whole, after a disaster.
If you only want to stop the notifications
You do not have to close your account for that. Turning off notifications for Playroste in your phone settings stops them, and everything else keeps working.
